RRB Station Master Vacancy 2026: RRB Wise and Zone Wise (1,265 Posts)

Updated on 28 October 2026
The RRB Station Master vacancy 2026 is given RRB wise and zone wise in Annexure-B of CEN No. 08/2026. The table has 30 lines, one for every RRB and railway zone pair, and it adds up to 1,265 posts. The online application has been started on 27 October 2026 and it is open till 25 November 2026 (23:59 hrs), so the candidates are looking this table to understand the posts of each board.
In this article we have given the complete Annexure-B table with UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, total and ExSM columns, the arithmetic check we did on it, the RRB wise and zone wise totals, the reservation rules written in the notification and a few facts that matter when a candidate picks the RRB.

RRB Station Master Vacancy 2026: 1,215 or 1,265?
The notification shows two different totals. The "Details of Vacancies at a Glance" table on the third page gives 1,215 as the total vacancy of all RRBs. The RRB wise and zone wise table of Annexure-B gives 1,265. So the notice contradicts itself by 50 posts (1,265 minus 1,215 is 50).
We checked the Annexure-B figures ourselves. Each of the 30 rows adds up correctly, which means the UR, SC, ST, OBC and EWS numbers of every row make the total of that row. The columns also adds up to the printed totals, 542 + 176 + 104 + 296 + 147 = 1,265, and the 30 row totals together are 1,265 as well. So the detailed table is consistent inside itself, and we have used 1,265 in this article, same as in our main RRB Station Master recruitment 2026 article. The notification does not explain why the summary shows 1,215, and the board may clarify it through a corrigendum.

Which Zones Come Under Which RRB
The notification itself does not draw any separate map of RRBs and zones. The only place is Annexure-B, and the pairs in it are the ones given in the RRB wise table above. Some points can be read directly from the table.
Thirteen RRBs have a single zone, and the other eight (Ajmer, Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bilaspur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ranchi and Secunderabad) have two or three
Mumbai is the only RRB with three zones, CR, SCR and WR
Ten zones have vacancies under more than one RRB, for example NR (Prayagraj, Chandigarh and Jammu-Srinagar) and ECR (Muzaffarpur, Patna and Ranchi)
The name of an RRB is not always the place of the zone, e.g. Ajmer RRB has posts for NWR and also for WCR
The notification also lists the short names of the RRBs (for example ADI for Ahmedabad, BCT for Mumbai, JAT for Jammu Srinagar and SC for Secunderabad), but the vacancy table uses the full names.
What the Vacancy Table Means for a Candidate
The notification asks every candidate to read Annexure-A (post parameters) and Annexure-B (vacancies) before choosing the RRB and the zone. We are not saying which RRB is better, because the notification gives no such ranking. The facts below are written in the notification, and they are given here for the candidate's information only.
Only one RRB can be chosen by a candidate. Applications to more than one RRB lead to rejection of all of them, and the candidate can be barred from future RRB and RRC examinations
Choice of the RRB is final once it is made, and it cannot be modified even in the modification window
Inside the chosen RRB, the candidate has to give an order of preference for the zones
The CBAT shortlisting is done RRB wise, at 8 times the vacancies, category by category (EWS, UR, OBC-NCL, SC and ST, with ExSM counted inside these). The notification adds that the figure can go up or down with the need of the Railway Administration
The Document Verification and Medical Examination shortlisting is also RRB wise, at 1:1 of the vacancies of that RRB
After all the stages, the RRB gives a zone according to the zone choices the candidate made, depending on rank, the medical result and the posts available. The RRBs also keep the right to allot a zone that the candidate did not choose, if it is needed in administrative interest
Once the candidates are empanelled according to merit and choice, the notification says they have no claim on their next choice
A newly appointed candidate cannot even register a transfer request to another railway for the first 5 to 10 years, so the notification tells the candidates to choose the RRB carefully
Reservation Rules for the Posts
Vertical Reservation
The table divides the posts among UR, SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS. Candidates of the reserved groups with the needed qualification may also fill the UR posts, but then they contest against the UR candidates on equal terms, and no age relaxation is given. The candidates have to show the Community Certificates in the prescribed formats at Document Verification. An OBC certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026 and before the last date of the application.
The EBC (Economically Backward Class) is a different thing. The notification says it is only for fee concession and not for reservation in jobs, and the EBC, EWS and OBC are three separate categories.
Horizontal Reservation for Ex-Servicemen
The notification provides horizontal reservation for Ex-Servicemen, irrespective of their social community. The 133 ExSM posts in the last column are a part of the total of each row, and not additional posts. If a post has no seats kept for ExSM, Ex-Servicemen can still go for the general vacancies, and the age relaxation and fee exemption stay with them. The medical standard for Ex-Servicemen is different, as per Para 534 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual, Volume I. Details are in our article on the railway A-2 medical standard for Station Master.
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
The vacancy table has no PwBD column. In Annexure-A (Post Parameters) the PwBD suitability columns (VI, HI, LD, OD and MD) all show "No" for the Station Master post. So the notification does not mark this post as suitable for any of those PwBD categories.
Can the RRB Station Master Vacancies Change?
Yes. The notification says clearly that the vacancies are provisional, and they can go up or down depending on the need of the Railway Administration. It also says that the vacancies can become nil in total or in a specific railway, unit or community at a later stage, that more posts may be added later, and that the Railway Administration can drop the notified posts at any point. Candidates are asked to watch the official website for any amendment, corrigendum or important notice. Details of the dates, fee and other conditions is given in the main notification article, and for the exam see the RRB Station Master syllabus and exam pattern 2026.
