Updated on 28 October 2026
The question most candidates ask after the notification is how to prepare for RRB Station Master 2026. The exam date of CEN No. 08/2026 is not announced yet, but the syllabus and the marks of each section are already in the notification, so the preparation can start now. A fixed plan based on those marks save a lot of time.
In this article we have given the exam in short, a way to divide the study time as per marks, the standard books and sources by category, a week by week 60 day study plan, the chapters on our site for each topic, the right time for the mock test and a note on CBAT. The plan is only a suggestion for revision, and it does not promise any result.

RRB Station Master 2026 Preparation Highlights
Particulars | Details |
|---|---|
Notification | CEN No. 08/2026 |
Post | Station Master (Level 6) |
Online Application | 27 October 2026 to 25 November 2026 (23:59 hrs) |
CBT Exam Date | To be announced |
Stages | CBT, then CBAT, then Document Verification and Medical Examination |
CBT Questions and Time | 100 questions, 120 minutes |
Negative Marking | 1/3rd mark for each wrong answer |
Plan Given Here | 60 days, 8 weeks plus 4 days |
RRB Station Master Exam in Short
The CBT is a single stage test, and it is a screening test as per the notification. It has three sections, and each question carries 1 mark. The notice says the split is indicative, so the real paper can differ a little.
Section | Questions (Marks) | Parts |
|---|---|---|
Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability | 60 | Basic Science and Mathematics (30), Data Analysis and Interpretation (30) |
Logical Capability | 20 | Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension |
Mental Reasoning | 20 | Analogy, Series Completion, Coding-Decoding, Ranking and Arrangements |
Total | 100 |
The minimum qualifying marks are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC (NCL) and SC, and 25% for ST. After the CBT, the shortlisted candidates give the CBAT, and the final merit is 70% CBT and 30% CBAT. The full details are in the syllabus and exam pattern article and the selection process article.
How to Divide Study Time Across the Four Sections
The marks are 60, 20 and 20, so a simple rule is to give the time in the same ratio. The first section has two parts of 30 marks each, so it makes four blocks in all. The table below shows an example of 180 hours in 60 days, that is 3 hours a day. The candidates who study for more hours can scale it up
Block | Marks | Share of Time | Hours out of 180 |
|---|---|---|---|
Basic Science and Mathematics | 30 | 30% | 54 |
Data Analysis and Interpretation | 30 | 30% | 54 |
Logical Capability (Logical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension) | 20 | 20% | 36 |
Mental Reasoning | 20 | 20% | 36 |
Total | 100 | 100% | 180 |
A candidate who is weak in a block can shift few hours from the strong one, but the marks ratio is a fair starting point. Data Analysis and Interpretation carries as many marks as Mathematics and Science together, so it should not be left for last week.

When to Take the Free Mock Test
Our free RRB NTPC Graduate mock test is a general railway graduate-level test, with 100 questions in 90 minutes (30 Mathematics, 40 General Awareness, 30 Reasoning). It is not a Station Master paper, and the 40 General Awareness questions are not in the Station Master syllabus. Only one test of this exam is live at present, and it needs a sign-in.
Around Day 28 : Attempt it once to see where the Mathematics and Reasoning stand. Look at the 60 Mathematics and Reasoning questions only.
Around Day 56: Solve those 60 questions again in a fixed time, and read the solutions of the wrong ones. The questions are same, so it shows the improvement and not a fresh score
For the previous papers and what exists officially, read the previous year papers and cut-off article.
RRB Station Master CBAT Preparation Note
The CBAT is for those who are shortlisted after the CBT. As per the notice, the following points apply.
The questions and the answer options are in English and Hindi.
A minimum T-Score of 42 is needed in each test battery, for all categories, with no relaxation.
There is no negative marking.
The original Vision Certificate (Annexure VI or VI A) must be carried, or the entry is refused.
The notice asks the candidates to read the RDSO website pages for information on CBAT.
The RDSO FAQ, which is an official document, adds that the T-Score is worked out from the mean and the standard deviation of all the candidates who gave that test, and that the aptitude test checks cognitive and personality attributes. It also advises to understand the examples, stay focused, watch the time, leave a difficult question and relax between two tests. Beyond this, the notice does not give the details of the tests, so no separate practice routine is given here. Candidates should depend on RDSO pages only.
RRB Station Master Preparation Strategy: Taiyari Kaise Kare
Candidates who ask "taiyari kaise kare" can follow these steps.
Read the syllabus lines of the notice once, and tick each topic when it is done.
Learn the concept from NCERT, then practise questions of that topic on the same day.
Keep an error notebook, in which every wrong question is written with the right method.
Practise with a timer from Week 3, since the paper has 100 questions in 120 minutes.
Avoid wild guesses, as 1/3rd mark is cut for each wrong answer.
Keep the health in mind, because A-2 medical standard is a part of the selection.
A Hindi guide on how to become a Station Master is given in the Station Master kaise bane article. To see how this post differs from the NTPC recruitment, read the Station Master vs NTPC article.
