RRB Station Master salary 2026 with Level 6 pay and in hand salary breakup

Updated on 28 October 2026

RRB Station Master Salary 2026 is one of the most searched topic after release of CEN 08/2026. The post is in Level 6 of the 7th CPC pay matrix and the initial pay is Rs. 35,400 per month, but the amount that reaches the bank account is different from this figure. DA, HRA, transport allowance and the pension deduction change the final number.

In this article we have given the pay as per the notification, the Level 6 row of the pay matrix, the annual increment rule, the allowances and two worked examples of in hand salary. Everything that is not in the notification is taken from official Government Orders, and a note is added wherever we could not confirm a thing.

What the Notification Says About Pay

The notification gives three things about money. First, the post is placed in Level 6 of the 7th CPC, and this is shown in the vacancy summary and again in Annexure-A (Post Parameters). Second, the initial pay is Rs. 35,400. Third, the selected candidates has to go through the prescribed training, and during that period only a stipend is paid as applicable (para 4.17).

The notification does not give the DA, the HRA or the take home salary. It also does not tell the stipend amount. So the figures in the next sections come from the Government pay orders and not from the CEN.

7th CPC Pay Matrix Level 6 and Annual Increment

The Pay Matrix was approved by the Union Cabinet on 29 June 2016 and applies from 1 January 2016. The Cabinet decision also says the annual increment rate is retained at 3 percent. In the matrix, every cell of Level 6 is the next higher stage, so one increment means moving one cell down in the same level. The first twelve cells of the Level 6 column, as printed in the 7th CPC report, are given below.

The entry stage, Rs. 35,400, is same figure that the notification gives as initial pay. The date of the first increment for a new joiner depends on the service rules in force at that time, so it is not worked out here.

RRB Station Master DA 2026 (Dearness Allowance)

DA is a percentage of Basic Pay. The Department of Expenditure Office Memorandum No. 1/1(i)/2026-E.II(B) dated 22 April 2026 raised DA from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay with effect from 1 January 2026. The same order says that the Basic Pay for DA means the pay in the Level of the pay matrix and does not include special pay. Fractions of 50 paise and above are rounded up to the next rupee.

As on 28 October 2026 the DA page of the Department of Expenditure lists this order as the latest one, and the page was updated on 27 October 2026. A revision due from 1 July 2026 has not been announced there till now. The rate can therefore be higher by the time a new Station Master actually joins.

The memorandum also says that separate orders are issued by the Ministry of Railways for railway employees. We have used the Department of Expenditure rate as the reference, and the candidates should confirm from the Railway Board order at the time of joining.

RRB Station Master HRA 2026 by City Class

House Rent Allowance is paid as a percentage of Basic Pay and the rate depends on the class of the city of posting. As per the Department of Expenditure OM dated 7 July 2017, the base rates are 24%, 16% and 8% for X, Y and Z class cities. These rates go up to 27%, 18% and 9% when DA crosses 25% and to 30%, 20% and 10% when DA crosses 50%. DA is now 60%, the higher rates are the relevant ones.

The list annexed to the 2017 order puts these cities in X class: Delhi, Greater Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Pune. Cities like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Lucknow, Patna, Bhopal, Indore and Chandigarh are in Y class in that list. All other towns are Z class. The list can be revised later, hence the candidates should look at the latest HRA orders. Whether HRA is paid in a particular case also depends on the conditions of the HRA orders, for example when Government accommodation is provided.

Transport Allowance for Station Master

Under the Department of Expenditure OM dated 7 July 2017, the employees in Pay Levels 3 to 8 get Rs. 3,600 plus DA in the cities listed in the annexure of that order, and Rs. 1,800 plus DA at all other places. Level 6 falls in this band. The details of the cities is given in the annexure of that order, and it includes Delhi, Greater Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow and some others. The allowance is not admissible if Government transport is provided to the employee.

Dress Allowance (Yearly, Not Monthly)

The Department of Expenditure OM dated 2 August 2017 names the Station Masters of Indian Railways in the category that gets ₹10,000 per annum as dress allowance, and it is credited once a year in July. The same order says that the amount will go up by 25% each time DA rises by 50%, and that the employees covered by it will not be given uniforms separately. We could not open a Railway Board order that shows the current figure for railway staff, so the amount is not added to the monthly examples below.

NPS or UPS Deduction From the Salary

A person who joins Central Government service now is covered by the National Pension System, and the Unified Pension Scheme is available as an option. As per PFRDA page on UPS, the new recruits who joined on or after 1 April 2025 can choose UPS within 30 days of joining, and if no option is given the employee continues under NPS. The employee share is 10% of (Basic Pay + DA) in both the schemes.

The real salary depends on the city, the DA rate at that time and the other deductions like income tax, professional tax of the state, insurance and quarter rent. During the training period only a stipend is paid, so the first few months can be lower than these examples. 8th Pay Commission and Station Master Salary

The Eighth Central Pay Commission is constituted by the Government through a Resolution dated 3 November 2025, with Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as Chairperson. The Resolution says that the Commission will make its recommendations within 18 months of its constitution, and that it can send interim reports. The terms of reference include a review of the allowances and of the gratuity of the NPS and UPS employees.

On 28 October 2026 the official website of the Commission shows the consultation work, the memorandum and questionnaire pages and the meeting calendar. No report or new Pay Matrix is published there. The pay orders that are in force are still those of the 7th CPC. Any change in the Station Master pay after the 8th Pay Commission is therefore not known at present, and the candidates should not take the numbers from social media as final.

What Could Not Be Confirmed

  • The pay of the Assistant Station Master post is not in CEN 08/2026, because this notification is for Station Master only, and we have not given any figure for it.

  • A comparison of the JE and Station Master salary is not given, as we could not open an official RRB notice of the JE post for this article.

  • Night duty or other railway specific allowances are not added, because we did not find an official order that could be used for it

  • The pay levels of the posts above Station Master are also not given here for the same reason.
